While I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I have spent the last 27 years living in the Lisle and Naperville area. The first single family home my husband and I ever owned was in Green Trails, Lisle. There were two things we loved about living in Green Trails - the sense of community and all the green space. This was a dream come true for my children who always had a friend to play with or a babysitter near by. For me, it gave me a chance to get to know the neighbors whom I have built lifelong friendships with. From neighborhood garage sales to summer barbeques, we always found reason to come together.
The other thing that was wonderful about Green Trails was all the green space. As someone who grew up in a city, I wanted to give my children the opportunity to run around and explore their environment. Our house was a short walk to a beautiful gazebo. We also enjoyed walking on the paved trails and bike rides to the park and tennis courts. Being able to enjoy outdoor space opened up my kids' imagination and more importantly burned off all that energy that they always seemed to have!
Once the kids got older we realized that we needed more space, so we purchased our second home in Naperville. This transition was easy for our family, as Naperville is not only close to Lisle, but also has the same community feel that we loved about Green Trails. My children got to attend Naperville 203 schools and my husband has easy access to I-88 so he could commute into Chicago.
The kids are all grown up now (funny how time flies!) but Naperville continues to be the ideal place to live. With downtown Naperville so close, I get to enjoy trying new restaurants and there always seems to be live music to enjoy. I stay involved in the community through volunteering at Public Action to Deliver Shelter (P.A.D.S) where I am a regular as well as a Housing Coordinator, where I organize an annual drive to provide furnishings for a family in need and coordinate a place for them to live.
Naperville is my home now and the place where my children have fond memories of their childhood. My husband and I feel so lucky we stumbled upon these two great communities and have no intention of leaving anytime soon!
